A reflection on rest, resilience, and reclamation.

Why we need a vacation?

The “vacation” is both literal and metaphorical, a radical act of stepping away to reclaim rest, clarity, and power. For Black women, that pause is not retreat. It’s resistance.

About the project

This project began as a question about what happens when Black women choose to pause. What began as a research study evolved into a documentary and community of thought, a space to consider what rest makes possible when it is no longer postponed.

The stories shared here trace the tension between exhaustion and renewal, responsibility and restoration. They remind us that stillness is not an absence of movement, but another form of power.

Thank you for being here. Whether you arrive as a viewer, participant, or supporter, your presence is part of this unfolding story.
